Stepped jaw chucks can be added to 3- and 4-jaw lathe chucks as lathing and drilling jaws, stepped inward or outward. In addition to one-piece jaw sets,
lathe chucks are also available with base jaws and jaw pads. Hardened jaw pads are screwed onto the base jaws and can be removed and rotated.
Soft (unhardened) jaws, used in the lathe chuck for special applications, can also be fastened to the base jaws.
